Operation LionHeart!

Operation Lionheart begins..and this is basically a CIP programme for the travellers in which they make another trip out to the estate to provide their helping hands to the residents in the nearby HDB blocks by collecting newspapers, old clothes and canned food. After which, everything will be donated to charity for a good cause on behalf of Chong Fu Primary! The organization that the travellers will be helping is Food for the Heart.. and indeed, as the travellers journey and venture out there with their friends, teachers and guide, they will come to realise that this process is actually food for the human hearts, providing them with the staples in life, making them whole beings! Why the activity is called Operation Lionheart is very simple, it takes great courage to put down the pride that each individual has in himself and it takes great courage too to abandon their fears and putting others before self.. The more residents’ doors they knock, the more they explain their objective to the residents and the more they open themselves up to these strangers, the more they find themselves ignited with courage. As these minds are still young and easily mounded, such positive actions will set them up for greater success later on in the future! THE LION ROARS!

Project Where’s Wally?

This is Project Where’s Wally where we are supposed to take pictures with the members of the public. We have a list of tasks given to us whereby photos are supposed to be taken at a particular place and with a particular group of people.. one such example would be finding 10 watermelons and taking a picture with the watermelon seller together! This will amplify the degree of happiness, joy and fun that is in congruence with the Wonders that is within the human heart itself.

And indeed laughter is the best medicine and as Captain, the Giants and the Gypsies went around the neighbourhood looking at all the groups, smiles were all over the travellers’ faces and even to the extent of doing cheers and magic tricks in the public with many spectators crowding around to check us out! We are proud ambassadors of the school: Chong Fu Chong Fu SAKSAKOEI!

Some of the groups even met a nice stationary uncle and his wife who gave the entire school many stationary and toys and as a result we were able to receive these gifts of joy. Even though these gifts may not be expensive and the uncle may have made a loss in his business, it tells however of a sincere gesture of giving and after all, giving is the best way in life and after seeing the travellers’ faces light up, it made him feel that everything was worth the while. And yes, we may make a living by what we get, but however we make a life by what we give! So lets keep this spirit going on!

AND I CAN WALK 500 MILES!

Rise and Shine! Early in the morning, after arrival in school we headed down to the parade square for some morning exercise…which turned out to be a MASS DANCE! And we grooved along with the song 500 smiles together as a school! In the song, we learnt the steps of Cha Cha, Killing a Mosquito, Saying Goodbye, and a Gorilla’s Roar. To link it back to the thematic approach of this camp, without the ability to see, we would not have known how to dance to the song. Without the ability to hear, we would not have been able to listen to the rhythm, without the ability of our mouths, we would not have been able to laugh at ourselves and at the cheesy moves and lastly without the ability of all our 7wonders, we would not have so much fun.

And like what the song says, “And i would walk 500 miles, and i would walk 500 more”, we would treat life’s journey with resilience and tenacity, never giving up and stretching ourselves because this opens us up to new possibilities. The sky’s the limit, never say die!

The Journey Continues!

After lunch with our heavy stomachs but our blazing hearts, we set off to Yishun Park to find the 7Wonders of the World! And as we venture, we were told that we had modes of transport and each mode of transport can only be used once as we travel from each station to the next station. One popular choice would be the Parachute whereby each group has to hold up a very big piece of paper and everyone to be under it..and with that, everyone journeys with the same speed, with the same timing and covers the same distance and together as a TEAM where Together Everyone Achieves More, we embarked to complete each activity that was given to us..

What came as a surprise was the location of Taj Mahal..Having spent about 2 years in this Kingdom of Chong Fu at Yishun Avenue, we only know that there is a mosque nearby. However, the location of Taj Mahal overlooks a mosque and shows us a picturesque view from above and in a way, we see the scenery from above in surprise and awe. Never would we have known that the mosque can look so beautiful up there, flanked by all the clouds high up in the blue blue sky! This not only conveys the importance of our ability to see, but also our ability to observe and be aware of our surroundings. Hence, we should never take the littlest things in life for granted, like for the beauty of the mosque in this little dot Singapore which really looks like the real Taj Mahal itself..

We played games like Helium Stick which enhanced our understanding of the importance of unity, friendship, and communication and also games like Savour which triggers off our sensory function, the tongue. With bitterness, sourness, sweetness and saltiness, we then realise that life isnt as smooth as it always is. It is always a mixture of circumstances, emotions and challenges. In addition, these 4 tastes also represent our ability to conjure up different responses to the variety of situations we face out there! Like for example, being happy is a choice! Do you take it?

There are also games like Fix the Puzzle whereby twines are attached to a large jumbo marker and every traveller would have to hold one to one end of each twine itself.. thereafter, we as an entire team will focus on drawing either a picture or to write out a word as required by the Guide itself. This game not only shows us also of the importance of unity but also of having a common vision and a common voice and with that, we participated so intensely in the games that the twines all fell off as a result of vigorous tugging!

And the highlight of this journey goes to.. the Tower of Strength, building sandcastles with our bare hands! With no spades and minimal sandcastle equipment, we managed to construct sandcastles and journey to our next station!Even though the sandcastles did not look grand, it shows however of the great effort put in by each traveller and no matter how small a role each traveller took (be it to fill the pail with water, be it to build the sandcastle, or be it to collect more sand), this sandcastle of combined effort is a representation of what we are going to become in the future, firm and sturdy because we handled the activity well and activities are a reflection of life!

With “Sincerity” and “Perserverance”, we strive towards our shared vision, our shared values and that is to laugh, to love and to appreciate everyone around us no matter if he/she is our parent or the rubbish collector round the block..

Games and Stories Galore!

Illustrations!

After committing ourselves to giving a 100% participation, we the travellers broke out of our shell and went on to explore the world out there, the world that intrigues human nature the most. We played 7 kinds of different games like the Longest Line, Muscle Struggle, Step to Success, Illustrations and the Laughter Delight. These games truly invoked our five senses, the ability to laugh, to love, to feel, to see, to taste, to smell, and to hear. The guides are there as guardians to help us along our journey and we truly enjoyed a morning of fun, laughter and joy! Even though many of us faced uncertainty, we braved through all these obstacles and fears because we know that whatever doesn’t kill us will only make us stronger and no matter where life takes us, we will have the bravest of heart of any voyager to seek the rough waves out in the open seas out there!

Longest Line!

After finishing one small game, our guide will then narrate to us one short inspirational story regarding each wonder of the world. It framed up mentally for our search in the afternoon. Not only were the stories interesting, they told of a great tale of human mankind and these legends were not of the greatest achievements but rather of a tale that warmed each and everyone of our young hearts. For example the story behind Taj Mahal was of a foolish king who turned his country into what seemed like human paradise. However, his wife wanted the people to taste suffering and to know how hard was it to truly earn every cent. And one day when the wife fell very ill suddenly, it dawned upon the King how silly his actions were and when he finally repented, the Queen had passed away. As a result, the Taj Mahal was built in memory of her. These games and stories sure complemented each other well and they gave us a better understanding of why people always wanted to travel to these 7 places on Earth…

Say hello to Mama Guide!

Welcome to the Kingdom of Chong Fu!

Now boarding to… the Seven Wonders of the World! Once upon a time, there were two giants Kungfu Panda and Tiger and they had a mission to hide the 7 wonders in the universe! And so, as they grabbed the 7 wonders with their hands, their legs and their bodies,  and they threw it as far as they could ’20000million years later, two gypsies by the name of Xue Er and Cyrena found a piece of paper which said “Mission task: To find the 7 beautiful wonders of the world. To complete this mission you will need to seek help from 200 8 year olds from the Kingdom of Chong Fu. Beware of what you are about to be faced with…..”

And so the two gypsies, along with their  14 guides went on a mission to find the largely sought 7 wonders of the world. However, the travellers from the Chong Fu Kingdom would have to put in their 100% effort into this task otherwise, the 7 wonders would vanish forever!

So with much enthusiasm and hype, the guides, the travellers and the head Captain, Captain Ridtz went around the world, putting their hearts and souls into this mission which would later then unleash the beauty within mankind itself….
